I did not learn these survival principles from Jeff Cooper and Jeff Cooper did not invent them. These principles have been around since the beginning of mankind. Jeff Cooper was nice enough to remind us that they work.

A roadmap from the police academy to the pension line.

In April of 1865, Charles J. Colchester, a shady character of a man, met Abraham Lincoln and warned him that his life was in danger; a few days later Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, was shot in the head. Charles J. Colchester was a friend of John Wilkes Booth. 

Lincoln’s Secretaries, John G. Nicolay and John Hay commented on the incident; “But he had himself so sane a mind and a heart so kindly, even to his enemies, that it was hard for him to believe in a political hatred so deadly as to lead to murder.”

Some of us still remember Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom and National Geographic bringing the wildlife into our living rooms. I remember Jim always got the dirty job, as  Marlon cheered him on. Jim was as tough as they come.

In August of 2005 Hurricane Katrina came to visit America. We all can remember the images of that disaster. Many of us were directly affected. We have all seen the failures in the systems that were in place for such an event.
